Overview
The SDS200 sits at the top of Uniden’s line alongside its handheld sibling, the SDS100. Both share the one feature that matters most in tough metro RF: a software-defined True I/Q receiver instead of a conventional discriminator. On difficult simulcast systems — where several transmitters send the same signal and the overlapping waves smear the constellation — the SDS-series front end recovers voice that a BCD996P2 or a Whistler TRX-2 will drop into garble.
If your county is not simulcast, that advantage is moot and cheaper radios (or a free SDR) do the same job.
Modes & systems it decodes
- P25 Phase I & II — the dominant US public-safety standard, conventional and trunked.
- DMR and NXDN — business and some public systems (some modes have historically needed a paid upgrade key).
- Motorola, EDACS, LTR analog trunking; conventional analog FM; ProVoice and X2-TDMA.

It cannot decode encrypted talkgroups — that is a hard limit for all consumer hardware and all SDRs.
Programming

- Sentinel software + SD card for favorites lists, firmware, and database updates from a PC.

What is True I/Q on the SDS200?
True I/Q means the SDS200 samples the raw I/Q signal like a software-defined radio and processes it in software, rather than using a fixed hardware discriminator. That software processing is what tames simulcast distortion — the SDS200 and SDS100 are the only scanners that do it.
Does the SDS200 decode DMR and NXDN?
Yes. P25 Phase I/II, DMR, NXDN, ProVoice, and X2-TDMA are all supported. Note that some digital modes historically required a paid Uniden upgrade key; check the current listing. It cannot decode AES-encrypted traffic — nothing consumer can.
